$25,000 Raised
Thanks to your generosity, The Mitchell and Friends Foundation has reached the first leg of its $150,000 race. Here is Vice-President Michele Herndon presenting Washington University neurologist Dr. Bob Bucelli with the first $25,000 installment we pledged to Wash U’s “Mitchell Syndrome Fund.”
Where will this money go? According to Bucelli, who serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the MAFF, the funds will be used to help pay for a junior faculty/fellow at Wash U to study Mitchell Syndrome. This yet-to-be-identified medical researcher will create an updated cohort of patients—complete with medical and personal data—that can be used by pharmaceutical companies to investigate possible treatments for Mitchell Syndrome. These treatments include N-acetylcysteine Amide (NACA), and Antisense Oligonucleotide therapies, both of which show promise in helping slow the effects of Mitchell Syndrome.
The MAFF Board has pledged another $125,000 over the next two years. With your help, we will make those payments, and will be well on our way to defeating the rarest of rare diseases.
